There’s something surprisingly comforting about a rainy weekday.
While sunny days call for busy schedules, outdoor plans, and running around, a rainy Tuesday gives you full permission to slow down, take a breath, and just enjoy being home.
Whether it’s a soft morning drizzle or a steady afternoon downpour, here is how Madison, Chimes, and I usually navigate a gray day.
No matter what the weather is doing, Chimes still needs her morning walk.
Pulling on rain boots, grabbing a big umbrella, and stepping out into the fresh, damp air is actually one of my favorite parts of the day. There’s a quiet stillness outside when it rains—the air smells clean, the trees look extra green, and Chimes couldn't care less about getting her paws wet. It’s a peaceful, grounding start to the morning before Madison heads off to school on the bus.
Once the morning school rush is over, my coffee habit kicks into full gear. On a gray morning, there’s nothing better than a hot cup of coffee—whether I’m brewing a fresh pot at home or stepping out of the damp cold into a cozy local café.
Sitting near a window with a hot mug while listening to the rain patter against the glass is the ultimate mid-week reset. It’s a quiet pocket of time to catch up on work, clear my head, or just enjoy ten quiet minutes before the rest of the day takes off.
When Madison gets home from school, the house naturally shifts into relaxation mode. Shoes get kicked off, cozy socks go on, and we catch up on how her day went while she settles in for homework.
As the afternoon turns into evening and the rain keeps coming down, I swap the daytime coffee for a warm cup of herbal tea. Sitting on the couch with a mug of tea, watching Chimes curl up on her bed, and listening to the rain on the roof makes the whole evening feel grounded and calm.
It’s easy to look at a gray forecast and wish for sunshine, but rainy weekdays have a way of reminding us to appreciate the simple things. A good cup of coffee in the morning, a hot mug of tea at night, and a quiet evening at home—sometimes the best days are the simple ones.

In 2018, my daughter Madison and I made a massive leap. We packed up our life in Bergen County—the only home Madison had known for her first eight years—and moved west to Sussex County
